Merriam-Webster (n.d.) defines rubrics as "a guide listing specific criteria for grading or scoring academic papers, projects, or tests" (para. 1).

Why do we use rubrics?

  • Make assignments less stressful.  

  • Clarify instructor expectations.

  • Understand the purpose of the assignment. 

  • Emphasize what you should learn from the assignment. 

  • Use as a checklist for what to accomplish with the assignment.
