Q. How Do I Prep My Computer For An Online Tutoring Appointment?

Answer

STEP 1: Before beginning an online tutoring appointment, please ensure you have installed the Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome web browser for the best result with the Brainfuse tutoring platform.

You can download & install Firefox for free at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/.  There are no additional downloads required when using Firefox.  You can download & install Google Chrome for free at https://www.google.com/chrome/

Note: During your first tutoring session, you will be prompted to download the Brainfuse Screenshare extension.  You may wish to download this extension prior to your session to avoid interruptions.  To do so, visit the Chrome Web Store and type “Brainfuse Screenshare” in the search box.  You will see the below image.  Click “Add to Chrome” and follow the prompts to add the extension.

STEP 2: Ensure JavaScript, Adobe Flash, and pop-up’s are enabled in your browser. Please see below for instructions for each web browser.

  • Google Chrome:  You can use this link to check Java settings on Chrome. You can use this link to check Flash settings on Chrome. You can use this link to turn on and off pop-up blockers on Chrome.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Java and Flash are automatically enabled and don’t need to be checked when preparing for a tutoring appointment. Use this link to check the pop-up settings in Firefox.

Note:  JavaScript and Adobe Flash are automatically embedded inside Chrome and Firefox and are not required to be downloaded on the device.

STEP 4: The tutoring link in the Student Portal will bring you to your student Brainfuse account. Once there, select 'My Calendar' from the drop-down menu to the right, under your name.

STEP 5: To enter the online platform Whiteboard, press Enter for the session relevant to your appointment.

Note: Whiteboard is not accessible until your tutor has logged into the session.  Until then, you may see the following message.

Be sure to check your time zone and allow the tutor to enter the session. When you see the screen below, you have successfully joined the first tier of the online platform known as Whiteboard.

If you require screen-share access to share your computer screen, your tutor can initiate an OnSync session through Whiteboard. When the tutor initiates On Sync, the below image will appear.  Click "Ok". You will then be directed to a new tab in your web browser. Note: If it does not appear, you may need to allow pop-ups (see STEP 1).

You may be prompted to allow access for a microphone and camera. Select 'allow' to initiate voice and video chat. There will be a green light next to the video/audio icons to let you know it is enabled.

Once you have arrived at this window, you will need to select Join Meeting in green to enter the OnSync screen-share platform.

Note: If you are using Google Chrome and have not yet installed the Brainfuse ScreenShare extension, you will be prompted to do so with the below image.  See STEP 1 for details.

Congratulations! You have successfully set up your computer for the online tutoring platform!  Descriptions of each tool/feature are included in the below image for reference.
