How do I cite a court decision or case in the APA citation style?

Answer

APA defers to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, a commonly used legal citation style when citing legal documents such as court decisions or cases.  The format for the references page citation is:

Name v. Name, Volume Source Page (Court Date).

Bennett v. MIS Corp., 607 F. 3d 1076 (6th Circ. 2010).

Note: Reference list citations are typed in one of six approved typefaces (Calibri -11 point, Arial-11 point, Lucida Sans Unicode-10 point, Times New Roman-12 point, Georgia-11 point, Computer Modern-10 point), are double spaced, and use the hanging indent if needed.

Matching in-text citations are for this example are:

...(Bennett v. MIS Corp., 2010).    (parenthetical in-text citation)
Bennett v. MIS Corp. (2010),....    (narrative in-text citation)
