How do I write a persuasive email?

Answer

What is a persuasive email?

A persuasive email is an email in which you want to get the reader to see your point of view and agree with it. You may do this by sharing arguments, research, and any ideas that would convince your audience.

Things to consider when writing the email:

Audience and purpose

  • When you know the audience for your email, look at things from their perspective. That will give you insight about how to approach things. For example, you can predict what their concerns might be and address those.

Email format

  • Subject line should reflect your purpose
  • Greeting: should have a professional tone that is appropriate for your audience
  • Body: should include your position and the information to back it up
    • State your position and include why you believe in it. This may include research, connections to theories, and anecdotes that support your position
  • Closing: Should have a professional tone
