Do the library databases offer read aloud or text-to-speech?

Answer

Read Aloud

Read aloud (or text-to-speech) can help students, especially English language learners, understand the content of academic articles.

In most EBSCO databases and ProQuest databases, look for the Play button to read aloud HTML format articles. Read aloud lets you slow down or speed up the reading speed.

For articles in PDF format, use your Web browser's read aloud feature. Microsoft Edge comes with read aloud for PDFs. For Chrome and other browsers, extensions or add-ons are available (for example, Read Aloud for Chrome). To get started, open the PDF in a browser tab or window. Next, look for the Read Aloud icon in the toolbar. The read aloud speed can be adjusted.
