How do I write a screenplay?

Answer

A screenplay is a script or written work for a movie or motion picture, including acting instructions, dialogue of characters, and scene directions.

Screenplays vary in complexity and often include:

  • Scene headings – Location and time to tell where the action is happening
  • Action lines – The description of the actions in a scene, location of the scene, and the characters
  • Character names – Identifies the character who is speaking
  • Dialogue – The line of speech the character says
  • Parenthetical(s) – Provides information on how the lines are said or acted
