How do I cite / reference an ARTICLE from a journal, magazine, or newspaper that was in a database?

Answer

Gather the following information when you cite an article found in library databases:

  • Author or authors
  • Article title
  • Journal title
  • Publication date
  • Journal volume number
  • Journal issue number
  • Page range (where article appears in journal issue)
  • DOI number or Permalink

According to APA 7th edition, references for articles found in library databases follow the same format as articles found in print with the addition of either the DOI number or library database permalink.  Please note that the phrase “Retrieved from” is no longer included in the reference.
