I am an instructor and would like to add images into my course. Where can I find open access or free images? How do I cite the images in APA Style in my course?
I want to add images to my course banner and announcements.
Answer
Blackboard Ultra provides several locations (announcements, course image/banner, etc.) for instructors to insert images into courses. To ensure copyright compliance, it is always a best practice to use images from a library database or open access website.
Recommended databases and websites for locating images:
- Image, Chart, or Graph page of the Copyright Toolkit
- Free Resources page of the School of Design Guide
Please note that though the resources may be readily available, they often have requirements for attribution and use. In addition, when using all of the websites, please review their Terms of Use.
Citing images/providing attribution:
If using an image that requires attribution in your course announcements (or other areas that allow for text input) follow the instructions provided in the links above. If using an image in your course image/banner, please use an image that indicates it does not require attribution; at this time, there isn't an option for providing attribution within a course image/banner. Again, you will need to look closely at the image and its attribution requirements to determine if attribution is needed.
