How do I use the OpenAthens redirector to make a permalink to a source?

Answer

Some articles/journals/videos within the Rasmussen University databases do not generate permalinks properly.

For example, content in the following databases require a link generated by the OpenAthens redirector:

  • Ovid (Journals, ebooks, Joanna Briggs)
  • ImageQuest
  • Videatives videos

To create a direct permalink to sources in these databases, go to https://go.openathens.net/generate/rasmussen.edu/71294215

Enter the link you have for your source or video (typically found using a "Share" icon within the database). Then click "Generate."

For example: for the video from ASP, titled "Health Coach in Medical Fitness" the link provided by the "share/citation" tool within the database looks like this: https://video.alexanderstreet.com/watch/health-coach-in-medical-fitness

In the Redirector tool, paste the link into the target link box:

After clicking Generate, the tool provides you with an OpenAthens redirected link:

The link you should provide to students is the redirector link which looks like this: https://go.openathens.net/redirector/rasmussen.edu?url=https%3A%2F%2Fvideo.alexanderstreet.com%2Fwatch%2Fhealth-coach-in-medical-fitness

The new redirected link will prompt students to login before accessing a source - this will authenticate them as a Rasmussen University student and allow them to directly view the source material with no issues.

You can test whether the redirected link works by opening a private browsing window and copy/pasting the link into the URL bar. If you are able to get to the video/article/journal with ease, then the redirector link is working.

If you're unsure whether or not to use a redirector link for a source, please reach out to your programmatic librarian or the digital services librarian.
