FERPA Information

Privacy Compliance and the release of student information, your rights:

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords certain rights to students concerning the privacy of, and access to, their education records. If you wish to discuss your educational records over the phone with Rasmussen University staff members, you will need to designate a code word for verification purposes. Rasmussen University staff members will not be able to discuss your academic, financial aid, or student account information over the phone without verifying your code word first.

Instructions for Designating a Code Word:

  1. Log into the Student Portal and select "Account Center" at the top of the screen.
  2. Select "My Profile" listed on the left side of the screen.
  3. Select the "My Information" submenu item.
  4. Select the "FERPA Codeword" tab.
  5. Click the "Edit" button, enter your code word, and click the "Save" button.

You also have the opportunity to inform Rasmussen University of authorized individuals to whom information may be released. Authorization does not obligate the College to release education records to third party individuals. All requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Any authorized individual you identify on your account must present your designated code word to receive information over the phone. It is your responsibility to control access to your code word and not share it with anyone other than those individually listed. You may change your authorized individuals at any time.

Instructions for Authorizing Individuals:

  1. Log into the Student Portal and select "Account Center" at the top of the screen.
  2. Select "My Profile" listed on the left side of the screen.
  3. Select "My FERPA" submenu item.
  4. Select "Consent" from the dropdown.
  5. Select the "Add Person" link in blue to add individuals you would like to have access to your academic, financial aid, and/or student account information.
