According to an article at Wired Magazine, Gardiner (2015) says, "Boxes are insulating, stress-relieving, comfort zones—places where cats can hide, relax, sleep, and occasionally launch a sneak attack against the huge, unpredictable apes they live with."

But we just think they like to use their imaginations to be race-car drivers, astronauts, and other fun things.
