According to the Encyclopedia Britannica (2013), homeostasis is "any self-regulating process by which biological systems tend to maintain stability while adjusting to conditions that are optimal for survival."

While you are looking at that article in the Encyclopedia--which also discusses internal equilibrium, homeostatic regulation, and other assorted references--check out the article on sepsis. Using the knowledge you discover upon comparing these two terms you should be able to determine if homeostasis ultimately leads to sepsis.
