According to a fact sheet on sun exposure from the National Institutes of Health, sun tans are not healthy for you.  If you search sun tan on the same site (look to the top right of the fact sheet for a search box) you'll get several other helpful articles.

You can also easily find more information by searching in a few of Rasmussen's e-resources, click the names of the databases below to open them and then search 'tanning', 'suntanning', 'sun exposure', etc.
