How do I find articles about small businesses that failed?

Answer

Use a newspaper database like Regional Business News

  • Think about how a newspaper would describe the closing of a small business in an article title and search that. For example:
    • "Acme Shutters Doors"
    • "Spacely Sprockets Closes Doors after 60 Years"
    • The common wording in this example being CLOSES DOOR or CLOSES DOORS or SHUTTERS.

Use a business database like Business Source Complete or Business via ProQuest

  • Search the phrase Small Business Failures, or Business Failures
  • Limit the dates on the left side of the page if you'd like something more recent
  • Limit your search by clicking on the "company" link on the left hand side.
