If the musical or audio recording was created by you, Rasmussen College, or is covered by a Creative Commons license that allows for commercial use (CC BY, CC BY-SA, or CC BY-ND), the recording is most likely copyright protected.  Obtaining permission from the copyright holder is recommended before including the recording in a course.

The Copyright Toolkit includes:

  • instructions for obtaining permission to use a copyright-protected video in a course
  • a "Permission Request" form to use when requesting permission from the copyright holder

Consult the Audio/Music page in the Toolkit to view:

  • typical scenarios and recommendations
  • a flow chart to guide decision-making
  • links to resources that provide access to copyright-compliant music or audio recordings

The Copyright Toolkit is an excellent resource for Rasmussen Faculty. Use the Toolkit to learn more about copyright and to answer specific questions about the use of resources within Rasmussen courses.

Contact librarians@rasmussen.edu with additional questions about the Toolkit or the Permission Request Form.

Contact compliancequestions@rasmussen.edu if you have reviewed the content in the Copyright Toolkit, but still have a  question about the use of a specific resource in your course.
